Union Culture Of Thuggary

We told you here how the union thugs have been trying to block citizen petitions in Oregon going back to 2002. (We are working on obtaining video of the red-shirted union paid blockers from back in 2002.)

We told you here how the head of "Our Oregon", Patty Wentz has been involved in such anti-democracy tactics for years. We also have suggested that the Oregon model of initiative blocking has been spreading.

Now we have this editorial from the Las Vegas Review Journal that says:

those who favor the unlimited expansion of the public sector realize their best shot of killing a spending cap rests with sympathetic judges.

Get ready Oregon, the union thugs of "Our Oregon" are already showing their hand here. However the Las Vegas Review Journal opinion should be sending the Oregon mainstream media a heads up.
The Associated Press reports that, "Organizers of a petition drive aimed at capping state spending in Nebraska are suing three cities, alleging they have been obstructing the effort and interfering with free speech."

In their zeal to quash spending caps, according to the allegations, officials in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island -- three of the Nebraska's four largest cities -- have tried to stop petition supporters from gathering signatures in public parks, on sidewalks and streets, and outside
public facilities.

Sound familiar? Similar tactics were used in 2004 against petitioners in Nevada seeking to drum up support for proposals to ban public employees from serving in the Legislature and repeal record tax increases passed by lawmakers in 2003.

And those circulating TASC petitions in Las Vegas this month had to fend off members of a public employee union-backed group hoping to intimidate voters into not signing....

...Thus the desperate tactics employed by these powerful special interests.

Of course the good people at the "non-partisan," non-profit organization "Our Oregon," are only interested in cleaning up the process eh? Of course they are not interested in targeting conservative issues because that would make their tactics partisan and political and thus would jeopardize their non-profit status.

Consider that former Oregon union thug Jeanne Berg is now running the blocking operations in the Midwest. Consider that Patty Wentz was her understudy in Oregon. Consider that the name of the union thug group in Nevada is "Nevadans for Nevada." Eerily similar to "Our Oregon?"

We are still compiling the list of charges that have been filed against the union thugs in Nevada. Suffice it to say that assault is among them. Also suffice it to say that a judge in Nevada smacked down the union thugs and forced them to sign on to a plan that forced them to be civil in their opposition and blocking tactics.

Just a shadow of what is to come to Oregon?

The are filing complaints left and right in Oregon. They are trying to assemble bits and pieces of things they hear from signature gatherers into various illegal conspiracies.

Now they've got the Secretary of State investigating chief petitioners and the signature gathering operations.

They're not going to find any of the things the unions are alleging, but the unions already know that.

The unions' goal is to slow down the drives during the last week, and the Secretary of State is helping them by issuing wideranging subpoenaes for all sorts of business documents that must be complied with by 3 days from the end of the drive.

The unions hope that if the contractors have to waste a chunk of their final week answering subpoenaes it will slow them down.

I remember the redshirts all too well. Screaming in peoples' faces and at times actually slapping petition clipboards out of peoples' hands - it was some unbelieveably nasty stuff.

Their tactics had the opposite of the intended effect, I think. By resorting to open intimidation tactics, they simply reinforced opposition to them.

Our Oregon is nothing but a disgrace to the great democratic process we have exercised in Oregon for over a century.

The Limousine Riding Latte Drinking Liberals still cannot understand why the voters are overwhelmingly supporting Conservative ballot measures, so rather than fight it out at the ballot box, they have found every way to obstruct the will of the people as humanly and bureaucratically possible.

Anti-Petition thugs? These are serious accusations, friends.

Don't throw such charges around lightly. Back them up with evidence.

By the way, isn't it true that in the old days, government workers weren't allowed to unionize at all? It was thought they would have too much power!

Anon,
You are correct. These are serious accusations.

What is most serious is that they are backed up. A Federal judge had to finally smack down the anti-petition thugs in Nebraska.

There are several serious allegations pending in Nevada. In Nevada the petitioners had to get a restraining order to keep the thugs off of them.

The strategy was devised by Tim Nesbitt who tried it out on Oregon back in 2001 and 2002. The unions decided to spread it around the country.

One of Nesbitt's hench-people was Jeanie Berg. Ms. Berg moved on to run the anti-petitioning efforts in Oklahoma. Of course Oklahoma is next door neighbors with Nebraska.

You have heard about the electoral problems in Washington state. Well it should also be curious that Patty Wentz spent time in Washington State.
