Over at BlueOregon and the left leaning Register Guard there have a been a few stories about Republican "trackers" following Democrat Senate candidate Jeff Merkley around.
They pretty much have their undies in a twist over the whole ordeal (oh and they don't mention the "tracker" who followed Senator George Allen around and actually inserted himself into the discussion.).
Of course Merkley spokesman Russ Kelley seemed to probably understand that they were employing "undercover" trackers themselves as he tried to back away from the ledge a little bit. Mr. Kelley said “But there’s an honest way to do it, and there’s a dishonest way to do it. You find out where they are through public notices and things like that. You don’t call and misrepresent yourself."
Ahhh... wouldn't want to misrepresent ourselves would we? Like this staffer from the Democratic Party of Oregon who has been a Smith “tracker” at varying times. You should pay particular attention to his name badge from an event at the Oregon Convention Center in December.
Senator Smith was speaking with Wyden at the Oregon Business Summit’s meeting and this individual worked his way in as “press” so he could shoot footage.
But then again maybe this Democrat party "tracker" was really telling the truth as he was wearing a "press" pass to get into the event. Because much of the media in Oregon have become shills for the Democrat party?... David? David?
Now I just wonder how long it will be before Kari and the kids over at BO get around to chastising the Democrats for misrepresenting themselves while employing "trackers?" After all they STILL have not gotten around to talking about the ethically challenged Democrat Senator Betsy Johnson's FBI investigation.

poor, poor Coyote. As I understand it, after asking the tracker who he was--and being told he represented DPO--it was EVENT STAFF who asked him to wear the press badge. You're essentially bashing GOP organizers for mislabeling him.
Nice try, though. And you should point out that many folks at BlueO objected to the use of photos for the Merkley trackers in an attempt to identify them.
who cares what he was doing there? redheads are sexy
First it was my understanding that it was not a GOP event. So I am not entirely convinced, as you say, that it was the GOP who gave him the "press" pass.
Second, it is a stupid bruhaha over the "trackers" anyway in that it IS clearly evident that Democrats do the same thing anyway and it is all part of politics. However.... HOWEVER it was Kari at BO (and his accomplices in the MSM) who are trying to make it seem like it is ONLY a Republican tactic.
Third, sure I noticed that some commenters objected to Kari's demonization of political opo research.
However... again it is the authors of the blog (in this case the author happens to work for Merkley) who are the one's pushing the issue throwing mud on the wall in hopes that something will stick.
Which is right in line with the way folks like the BO team operate...."let's just keep throwing something...anything out there and see what will stick... then... then if someone bites let's play the nonsense for all it is worth."
I am simply pointing out the hypocrisy in the way they go about it. As if Kari and the kids are lilly white.
They are not... Remember Democrat Sen. Betsy Johnson?
Yet... yet the moonbats still can't let go of the whole "let's try Bush and Cheney for war crimes" canard...

You know... never admit your own faults. Never admit that William Jefferson is guilty...never admit that Jim McDermott is guilty... never admit that Betsy Johnson is guilty (she pled guilty to ethics violations)... never admit that you have "trackers" of your own...
Just keep throwing mud.

I emailed this message to Coyote this morning.

Please correct your post about the DPO’s tracker.
Our tracker told the organizers of the event who he was and who he worked for and they asked him to wear that badge and let him in. He told the truth, yet you are calling him a liar.
You are calling him a liar, yet you never checked with us to get the facts.
You are publishing inaccurate information on your blog and I hope you will correct it as soon as possible.
Thanks for your help.

marc, I do not check my emails during the day. It is a long story...
However you are admitting that though your own employed "tracker" is not a member of the press yet is wearing a "press" pass?
You do then admit that the Democrats employ the dreaded "trackers?"
I am assuming that you also admit that they do, as in the case with Sen. George Allen that they actually at time disrupt events and insert themselves into the debate and function?
You also seem to admit, by omission, that you are OK with the practice of Demcorat "trackers" interfering and will run with any story that errupts out of said interruptions and try to take political advantage of such events? (Maccaca?)
You are OK with that right?
The one thing that you are not OK with is that someone might actually come to the conclusion that a Democrat operative, wearing a press pass, might be construed as misrepresenting himself?
Am I clear on your position? We just want to make sure.
Yip Yip
First of all, we track Smith because he has demonstrated enormous problems dealing honestly with Oregonians.
Information on that is here - http://www.stopgordonsmith.com/2008/01/contradictions.html
Our tracker respected the guidelines laid out to him by event organizers. Unlike the Republican trackers, our tracker does not misrepresent himself. And our tracker does not insert himself into the event.
But, let’s remember what this is all about. We employ someone to track Smith because of Smith’s history of contradictions, fact bending and inaccuracies. Newspaper editors and even Smith’s allies have commented on this part of Smith’s record.
No matter what side of the aisle we are on, we can all agree that it would be nice to have a U.S. Senator from Oregon we can trust.
Smith has lost the trust of Oregonians.
Ah, well let's dispense with the faux outrage over the whole "tracker" affair, then shall we?
And are we going to assume that Democrats do not have "enormous problems dealing honestly with Oregonians?"
I mean really? Really is that the high mark that you have set?
Nothing about Betsy Johnson's ethics problems?
Nothing about the Metoleous land deals?
Nothing about Marion County judges holding conflicts of interst in deciding cases? (Democrat judges that is.)
Of course the duplicitousness of the governor's office in hiring black ops operator Patt Wentz provides no problem in "dealing honestly" with Oregonians now does it?
Fact is that you do employ trackers.
Fact is that Democrat "trackers" can at times insert themselves into situations.
Fact is that you really cannot honestly say that Sen. Gordon Smith asked a Republican tracker to "lie" now can you? Of course you can't.
Yet let's not let THAT stop you from making a big deal about one person who sent an email to a Merkley staffer while attempting to get into a Merkley event. Let's not let a few facts get in the way of trying to throw some more mud on the Senator.
So in light of your factual oversight we can assume that you are going to be just as clean and "factual" on your "stop Gordon Smith" website? Can't we?
Yah right... remember, faithful in the little things.
Oh... and I checked my post again. I did not come right out and call your tracker a liar. I DID ask the question as to whether or not he WAS lying.
Or did you not notice the "?" in the caption? Could it be that you are simply looking for ANOTHER reason to feign outrage?
Could it be? Could it really be? Ah.. naw... ya'll don't operate like that.. LOL...
yip yip
Give us a break paid Democrat spinsters. The facts are clear. You guys are a bunch of hypocrites.
How many pictures did you post of the RNC trackers? You had been dying to point out that you are poor little victims. Now that it is proven that you are engaging in the same tactics you spin it.
Good try but we are not falling for it.
Press my @ss!
Good to see that the Democrats have so much money to spend on staff that spend the day here at NWR. Everyone knows that campaigns track their opponents. I can not believe that they got their buddies at the Register Guard to print this as "news."
Now that the D's have been exposed of course they will try to spin their way out of this as ANON1224 points out.
I bet Merkley even has someone following Novick. Now that would be a story!
Coyote's been exposed, so he tries to change the subject to Betsy Johnson. Hey Coyote - I know it's easy to dupe your fellow Republicans, but most Democrats are too smart to fall for your three-card-monty scheme.
You lied and now you're lying and changing the subject to save face. That's sad. I thought fundamentalist Christians had more integrity than that. I guess religion doesn't dictate morals.
Exposed?! Exposed?... Really?
Well good golly I did not even realize I was hiding... err... oops... I wasn't... I guess that is just another erroneous stereotype that you anonymous moonbats like to play.
Oh... speaking of hiding... errr... it is you who are commenting anonymously yet calling for exposure... LOL...
Gee whiz you guys just can't help yourselves but to be hypocrits can you? Booyah!
No, I listed several facts for you, dear anonymous moonbat, yet you fail to touch even one of them.
Typical moonbat tactic.... throw the mud... hope something sticks... then when it doesn't quickly move on to something else and hope no one was looking.
In this case what are you going to move on to?...errr... oops... looks like you already did with your empty referrenc to fundamentalist Christians. Ahhh...heavy sigh... another empty canard for you.
Better move on quick to something else. Maybe you should just mention the name Larry Craig? That always seems to be a safe "out" for the moonbats.
Then when that does not work you can resort to calling for war crimes tribunals for Bush and Cheney.
Meanwhile anyone following this discussion with any sense of intellectual honesty can plainly see that ya'll got busted being hypocritical.
Easy now. Click your heels three times and pretend none of this happened.
Yip Yip
Hell I've had to deal with "SPIES--TRACKERS" call um what you want, every election cycle. Liberal spy's are easy to spot.
T O X I C
Who is screaming at the llama's the loudest.
Pull the post.... Hugo Chavez is trying for a military alliance in this hemispere against us; ya'll are squarking about camera's in open sight; no, not even that - aprinted label on a minimum wage kid photographer. CRAP --- just offer one another a video of your speach.
I swear you'd argue over a burned match.
E<--- flips channel
Why should Coyote pull the post. It's at least as true as anything else he posts here. As one reviewer of Coyote's new favorite book put it, "Liberal Fascism, then, is a howl of rage disguised as intellectual history. Some mean liberals called Goldberg hurtful names, so he's responding with 400 pages that boil down to: I know you are, but what am I?"
I like how Marc Siegel tucks tail and runs with his second post -- typical liberal. He admits they use trackers but tries to spin it as if his party is doing something altruistic.
They've got two of the biggest liars ever in this state: Teddy K and Goldschmidt. Both died in the wool Dems and dirty to the core. You'd think Siegel would be be more circumspect when calling Smith a liar.
I've got to side with emory on this.
This is how the game is played. This is nothing new. Some are better at it than others, but it's what is done. Call it opposition research, call it weaslecraft, call it what you want, it doesn't matter. It's still politics.
I have weasled my way into closed Democrat events in the past and gotten away with it. And I have weasled my way into closed Democrat events and been busted. And I have busted Democrats at closed Republican events.
This is how the game is played. Get over it.
I have never seen NW Republican ever cast itself as a victim. That is of course what Democrats and liberals do. Play the victim card.
What Coyote has obviously done is show that is common political practice to plant a tracker.
The real issue is that Democrats are now trying to smear Republicans for just being less ethical about it. In essence - throwing down the victim card when exposed as being just as guilty as Republicans for playing by the same rules.
This thread of democratic indignation is really kind of a joke.
Sounds to me like the Democrat spokesperson "Marc" is sputtering just a leetle in his last comment?
What's the matter? Hypocrisy got yer tongue?
yip yip
Clearly this Democratic tracker made an error: he followed the directions of the Republican staff at a Republican event.
Instead, he should have remembered that what's left of the GOP are people whose pathological lies have so distorted their grip on reality, they'll happily blame others for their own idiocy. (See: Bush - balanced budget.) And with that knowledge, politely taken the tag they asked him to wear, and put it in his pocket.
Yeach Yeach
Coyote, show some class and ethics and just admit it: you fucked up. You went off a picture and your own biases without checking the story, and it bit you in the ass. You said the tracker misrepresented, and that turns out to be wrong. So admit it. Sack up.
Steve, clearly the kids over at BlueOregon got caught trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill and we realize that this kind of silly stuff happens all the time.
It would have been much better had the radical left started looking for silly mud to start throwing around and publishing pictures of other "trackers" in a lame attempt of playing the politics of personal distruction.
But then again the Democrats have been the authors and the perfectors of such tactics for a long time. (Anyone remember the "kind of country Robert Bork would have us live in?" Anyone remember how the Clinton's would "drag a 20 dollar bill through trailer courts" in order to find dirt on political opponents?)
Of course now the moonbats have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar and they still, STILL can't get themselves to admit that they made an "oops."
Stunning actually.
Yip Yip
torrid, grow up and speak with a cleaner mouth. I know you moonbats think it is cute and somehow get extra points for over use of vulgarity and the obligatory F bomb. However it really sounds childish to most adults.
I know I know, it is much harder to actually communicate like an adult... but give it a try... at least in here.
Now... to your point.
I wonder if the kids at BO will actually show some class and apologize for their usage of "tracker" photos even as they ADMIT that they did nothing wrong?
Now we all KNOW the game they (you) are playing; "Let's just put the pictures up there and tie it to a different story and then tie it all back to Gordon Smith... heh heh heh...mud, mud, let's throw some more mud...maybe it will stick."
Well you got caught in your hypocrisy and like a good moonbat you just can't get yourselve to back off that ledge. Instead you move to plan "B" which is to try to move along and change the subject.
Right? Riigghhtt...
Now go back and read the post with some comprehension and this time turn off the stereotype.
Yip Yip
You're in a hole, Coyote. You should stop digging.
You made a mistake. The ethical thing would have been to withdraw the article, and instead take the tack that catching a college age GOP tracker making a minor misrepresentation is making a mountain out of a molehill. Hell, I might even agree with you if you'd done only that.
Instead, you're now pretending that there is equivalence between a tracker who lied and one who explicitly followed directions, and when that didn't fly, pulling a kindergardener "he did it too" by trying to bring up strained analogies with every scandal you can think of associated with a Democrat.
Oh, and pretending that trackers, whose job it is to record people in public settings, have a right to not be recorded in public settings. (What DO you smoke? Keep my kids away from it.)
Seriously, Coyote. You don't want to get into the argument about which party's pols are more corrupt. Democrats may not be angels, but we look like them compared to current crop of Republicans.
Steve, Oh m'gosh I can't believe you are still trying to hold to such tired old lines... well maybe I can believe that because that is what moonbats do.
I have said that the moonbats and especially the folks at BlueOregon are hypocrits in this and the simple fact that it has you all atwitter seems to point to the fact that I struck a nerve.
I'm right and you know it. Did you ask the BlueOregoners to pull down their post regarding the innocent Republican trackers? Did they? Of course they didn't.
Did you ask TJ and LoadedO to pull their phony "conspiracy" about Sen. Larry George and that mythical M37 "conflict?" Of course you didn't.
Yet here I come along and show a Democrat staffer at an event wearing a press pass when he is really a "tracker" and your undies are, as I said in the post above, in a twist.
And what dah heck are you talking about: "Oh, and pretending that trackers, whose job it is to record people in public settings, have a right to not be recorded in public settings." Huh?
I am not "pretending" anything. It sounds to me like your stereotype is turned up to loud and you read something into something somewhere that is not there. Because I have no idea what you are talking about.
Finally, please stop this pretending that your Democrats are clean as the wind driven snow shall we?
Merkley violating the spirit of his own rules about raising money during the session.
Betsy Johnson admitting to ethics violations and now under investigation by the FBI. Not to mention the tidy little sum that she makes on her land deals. The ones we know about any way.
William Jefferson and his cash stored away in a refigerator.
Jim McDermott passing on an illegally taped phone call.
Merkley opposing robo calls then conducting robo calls. Voting for the war then voting agains the war.
And don't even get me started on the Democrat politicians in Portland city government.
So... no you got yerself in a hole and per typical moonbat fashion you just dig more and more furious.
Works well in the MSM where they quickly move on to the next Britney Spears story. But don't work so well here where folks can actually follow.
Oh Coyote, there you go again:
Instead, you're now pretending that there is equivalence between a tracker who lied and one who explicitly followed directions, and when that didn't fly, pulling a kindergardener "he did it too" by trying to bring up strained analogies with every scandal you can think of associated with a Democrat.
Coyote,
Your whimpering little yelps are getting too frequent to be useful to our beloved party. Burn Tim's @ss. He's just another over-zealous junior nobody scumbag "playing politics". We've seen this before, unfortunately. Remember Marc Lucca and Liz Pearson? There is NEVER a reason to lie, or is the ability to use good English just that difficult for these "whelps"? Our party is better than that, or at least should be. If we don't move to aggressively police our own, it is more than pathetic to bemoan the fact that an opposition party element might attempt to do so. Hang these little bastards, and openly.
