Gordon Smith backs Wyden health plan...Plans on killing jobs
"Senator Wyden and I share the same goal of providing high-quality health care that is accessible and affordable for all Americans, and we understand that we must put partisanship aside to achieve this goal." Sen. Smith
Ok and the way he is going to do it is to pass a law that will force employers to pay for insurance. Of course some of those smaller businesses just may have to go out of business and the jobs that they are providing will have to disappear. BUT that is a price we have to pay for socialized medicine.
Of course some of those businesses may just have to lay off some employees in order to find room in the budget to pay for health insurance. BUT what da hey... Who needs a job right?Employers would be required to raise the pay of their employees for at least two years by the cost of what they spent on health insurance.
Is that really what the government is supposed to be doing? Telling people what they are supposed to be paying their employees? Senator Gordon Smith thinks so.
Message to Sen. Smith: I know you really really want to be re-elected and I know a lot of Republicans really really want you to be re-elected. However bone-headed moves like this will not get the liberals to go softer on you and the more that Republicans hear about it the less excited they will be to support you. Mock you yes. But support you?
Well that is what I think anyway. Any political eagles out there think that I am wrong and have totally misread the tea leaves?

Have you been seeing his television ads?
He's running as a Democrat.
I've seen em. Just shook my head.

I thought that's what union organizers did for a living.
Exactly! Gordo's just practicing a little "collective bargaining" to get re-elected.
It's long past time for Gordo to be sent pea packin'.
The guy is too smooth for his own good! Makes my skin crawl looking at & listening to him. This conservative republican has many friends, R's, who feel the same way and ain't voting for him.
I'm newer to the state and to this blog, but I am sitting here trying to figure out why a "republican" blog has so much negative blogging about republican candidates.
Sure, some of the republican candidates might not be your ideal choice, but seriously?
This is going to be a hard enough year for republicans without members of their own party throwing them under the bus.
Other than that, this is a pretty decent blogspot.
Gordon Smith is "Republican" but he is not a small-r "republican". He'd have to put the will of the people ahead of the power of government for that.
Ron Wyden is a "Democrat" but he is not a small-d "democrat". He's a DINO who support the misnamed "Employee Free Choice Act" that would end folks' right to vote in a union recognition election.
anon 1:46,
We have on many occasions praised Republicans and will do so again.
In fact just a month or so ago I think I actually gave Sen. Smith credit for something.
However this Wyden health care plan will kill jobs.
Just because Sen. Smith is a Republican and this is an election year, does that mean we should be putting his senate seat ahead of real jobs?
The Wyden plan will TELL employers what to pay their employees. As if government knows how individual businesses should be run?
This was a dumb move by Sen. Smith. No two ways about it. It is the Smith campaign being too cute by half and I think in the end will cost him more votes than gain him.
Oh and I did not even mention his TV ads praising Obama.
I don't think that I am throwing Sen. Smith under the bus here. In fact some might say that he is throwing Republicans under the bus.
Fair enough Coyote. I see your point.
I am reminded of the Melvin Udall line from "As Good As It Gets":
"I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability."
This is the definition of the type of Republican who is our dear Senator Smith. It thus essentially the same as that of a Democrat. Legislating away the bad things. 'Cause it's so easy to do.
Senator Smith is not running as a Democrat. But his I-stand-with-Obama ads provide to us a barameter of sorts, a measure of how he and others believe the Presidential election will go.
I'm inclined to think he is right.
I am open to other views, however.
out of the options for healthcare reform, i think the Wyden plan isn't all that bad.
Not perfect, but given all the trade offs that you face with healthcare policy, really not all that bad.
