Barack Obama and the Civil War: GO BEAVERS!

OK, for those of you not from Oregon and who may have stumbled on this post randomly, we are talking about the annual football game against Oregon State University and the University of Zero er...uh... Oregon for the right to live in the state of Oregon. Don't get your panties in a wad over this post, please.

It strikes me that Duck fan has a real conflict with the upcoming Civil War game. I don't think it is much of a stretch to state that the overwhelming number of Duck fans are followers of Obama and subscribe to Obama's economic philosophy of "spreading the wwealth". In terms of the PAC-10, and the Civil War, application of Obama's "spreading the wealth" economic policies means that Oregon State University must win the Civil War, and here is why.

Right now, every team in the PAC-10 is guaranteed to get $450,000 as a share of the payout for one PAC-10 team participating in a BCS Bowl game. Because the PAC-10 is a BCS conference, the PAC-10 is guaranteed to have at least one team in a BCS game, which means that each team (even the crappy ones like Washington and Washington State), will get $450,000.

If the PAC-10 were to send twoteams to BCS bowl games, the amount of money each team in the PAC-10 would receive would be doubled - or $900,000.

It is a foregone conclusion that the Trojans of SUC will be in a BCS bowl game. But, if the Beavers beat the Ducks in the Civil War this weekend, then the PAC-10 will send TWOteams to the BCS, which means more money for all of the schools in the conference.

Also consider that the Ducks' bowl position is pretty well set between either the Holiday Bowl or the Vegas Bowl. The Ducks will get paid for going to either of those bowls. Plus, don't forget the Ducks have plenty of money from their "Uncle Phil" (Phil Knight, that is). The bottom line is, the Ducks have plenty of money, they can afford to spread the wealth.

It would be very George Bush/Dick Cheney/Karl Rove/Halliburton of the Ducks to try and win the Civil War this weekend. How dare they deprive the other PAC-10 schools of the extra money that comes along with having another team in the BCS! The Obama economic policy - which Duck fans faithfully adhere to - demands that the Ducks lose the Civil War in order to spread the wealth. Obama the Messiah demands nothing less!

So for you Duck fans who also supported NoBama, I trust that you are not being hypocritical, and you are rooting for Oregon State to win the Civil War in order to "spread the wealth".

That is the way Obama would want it to be.

Obama would actually probably not care, as the money not going to the PAC-10 would go to another conference, hence not leading to an overall increase in wealth.

But if you're arguing that the PAC-10 having half the money it would have otherwise is a good thing, that sounds strange!

Oregon is going to have to work pretty hard to lose this game - and hard work is definitely anti-Obama.

So in keeping with my tradition I must do it here.

It's The War of Northern Aggression Game.

:)

And, why don't people out here talk about good football, like the SEC?

SUPER FAIL!

What makes you think all of us Ducks supported Obama? Never mind the fact that hife brother coaches the OSU Beavers loosing baseketball team. I would say that the spread the wealth concept is a deception move to lull the Ducks to think this game is in the bag. Go Ducks and lets keep the Beavers out of the Rose Bowl.

I wonder,,, is there more liberal Democrats who are Duck fans and more conservative Republicans who are Beaver fans?

That's clever, Coyote! No Dem here but a dedicated Duck fan nonetheless. There are plenty in Douglas County who will use this argument should the Ducks fail to knock the beavs out of the Rose Bowl. It's plenty hard to wish them well. You've given us some rationality to fall back on. In fact let's not keep score at all. Let everyone be a winner like in T-Ball. That's the ticket!!

LOL - nicely done - I actually laughed at that post. But there will NEVER be more wealth shared in this country than the corporate welfare that just was announced yesterday in addition to the money that was previously given to the financial industry. Personal responsibility only applies to the poor - when the Captains of corporate industry piss away hundreds of millions of dollars its - "no worries, here's the bailout." BY A REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION! Why isn't the free market self correcting? Isn't it the end all and be all of economic theory?

The reasons the bowls distribute the money to ALL of the schools in the conference is the same reason that money is redistributed in society - for the benefit of the whole.

If the market were free before the bailouts, you'd have a point.

Well, as a life long Republican, I must say, I love beaver.

Does "spreading the wealth" include the Bush administration's transfer of hundreds of billions of dollars of middle class money to the corporate class to save them from their mistakes?

Or it it now trillions? It's hard to keep track, the money is moving so swiftly.

I supported McCain - although I am still perplexed by his VP nominee, but am throwing my weight behind OSU (my alma mater). The Beavs will have earned it if they beat the Ducks who are a pretty fair team themselves without their top runner. Riley and Belotti are both top notch coaches. Quizz Rodgers and Beavs (if they win) will make a much better account of themselves against Penn State in the Rose Bowl.

I am just proud to be from Oregon and not Washington (where I live), where the Huskies, Cougs and Seahawks suck this year.

This is a typical liberal crack.
It's suggestive without any basis in reality.

Did "Bush" transfer?????
Or is our out of control massive government, including congress, proving once again they cannot manage the mammouth size of themsleves?

David doesn't know,,, but he's sure Bush took from the middle class and gave to the rich.

OK David, now that you've shown your true colors there's no need for your faux expertise as an 'environmental science' writer here.

You've outed yourself as just another anti-Bush ideologue. As if conservatives support Bush.

Thankfully, your last comment puts you and your AGW brethren in the proper context where you all belong - political hackdom - proving that to typical progressives, smearing the GOP is really all that matters.

How disingenuous of you to come here and try to argue your 'case' via all your ridiculous comments.

Now run along and spend that MoveOn money on some Hollywood movies and prog kool-aid. We won't get fooled again.

Too bad about the Beavers, but trying to be objective, any team that gives up 65 points doesn't deserve to be in the Rose Bowl.

Congratulations are in order for the Ducks. They were rested and played both halves of the game. The Beavers just weren't sharp. I'm waiting to see if I hear the whining using Coyote's argument. That would really be reaching...
