Teacher thugs infect the classroom

"School teacher browbeats student over being a McCain supporter"
"In a clip from the Swedish public broadcasting company SVTs TV documentary, "From Bill to Barack", about the presidential election 2008, the viewer gets to meet Diantha Harris, a junior high teacher in Asheville, North Carolina."
"While plugging Obama and his policies to her class of 5th graders, she comes across, singles out and browbeats Cathy, a white 9 year old McCain supporter. One child is told her dad (who is in the military) will have to stay in Iraq for a 100 years, if McCain is elected president!(?)
The poor girl is obviously distressed over the teacher's line of questiong and belittling her choice of candidate in front of her school mates.
Why isn't this clip and child on Good Morning America, David Letterman, Larry King, etc?
You know that if a conservative-minded white teacher - had done this to a black student, the poor abused child would be on every television talk show!
------------
Diantha Harris: Its a senseless war! [Stares at Kathy.] And by the way, Kathy, the person that youre picking for president said [Harris shakes her head] that our troops could stay in Iraq for another hundred years if they need to! [Kathy bites her lip, looks ashamed. Other kids stare at Kathy, laugh, smirk.] So that means that your daddy could stay in the military for another hundred years!
[later in an interview] Diantha Harris: Now I can support whomever I want to support, as long as I dont browbeat another person for the candidate that they supported. Like I have some students that support John McCain, and when they told me that, I said ah thats good and I just moved on. So, I think that everybody is entitled to their own personal opinion."

I am less worried about her push of politics and more about her making that girl feel like crap. It doesnt matter who you were going for you can not make a child look like that in front of other kids. I would have been vilified as a child where I grew up...
Funny thing, I saw an almost identical story on another blog about a teacher's aide browbeating a student for supporting Obama. People on both sides need to just get over it already.
Teachers have no right to inject their political views on their students. Students are in school to learn to read, to write, to do math, learn geography, etc. not their techers geopolitics.
Amazing. That woman has no business receiving a check from the government to teach children.
And, yes, if she were browbeating Obama supporters, I'd say the same thing.
anon 4:48,
Why do I think you are fibbing? Why do I think that there is no "other" blog that has a teacher browbeating a student voting for Obama?
Why is that just too hard to believe?
And yet it is very easy to believe it coming from a union thug teacher?
Dems have been completely hijacked by the extreme Left for 30 years. But nobody is allowed to talk about that extremism. All the time the Dem Left are doing this to kids everywhere.
The GOP left drags Republicans into a hand-wringing over hurt feelings as if on command from the hard Left.
Republicans are fiddling like Nero while Rome is burning. Wake up!!
"Why do I think you are fibbing? Why do I think that there is no "other" blog that has a teacher browbeating a student voting for Obama?"
Why? Maybe because you are a close-minded right-wing nut case!
The A.W. Beattie Career Center has suspended an instructional aide for "unprofessional and unacceptable" comments about president-elect Barack Obama.
The comments were made Thursday after a 16-year-old student expressed enthusiasm about Mr. Obama's victory.
"Several of the comments attempted to describe, in a supposedly joking fashion, alleged social changes that would occur with Mr. Obama as president," said the release.
The student's mother, Mara Gilligan, said the aide told her biracial daughter that Mr. Obama was going to be shot and killed, the U.S. flag would be changed to the KFC flag, and the national anthem would be changed to "Moving On Up."
"For her to be so excited and for him to destroy some of that joy, I don't think she'll ever forget this," said Ms. Gilligan.
Another staff member also heard the comments, Ms. Gilligan said, and reported the aide to the school's administration.
The Beattie Center, which provides career and technical education to students in nine North Hills school districts, suspended the aide without pay on Friday.

You know, they have this thing called "Google" nowadays. If you had spent about two minutes searching for the story before shooting your mouth off you would have spared yourself some embarrassment.
(Now Coyote will make up another "rule" and delete this comment.)
I think hard-core Republicans have finally been driven off the deep end by the election results. The people who write this blog are so blinded by partisanship and so eager to slime Democrats that they seize on any report or rumor that makes Democrats look bad without any attempt whatsoever to check its accuracy. Remember the poor girl who had the letter "B" carved in her cheek by that big, bad, black Obama supporter? Turned out to be a complete fiction -- which even some Republican commentators, such as Michelle Malkin, suspected immediately -- but this blog rushed to post it.
At the same time they refuse to believe anything that might reflect negatively on Republicans. Coyote simply assumes that a report of a teacher's aide browbeating a student over Obama is a lie. Why? Because he WANTS TO THINK it's a lie. Facts? Who needs facts?
Keep it up, Republicans -- you are rapidly destroying what little credibility your party has left. We'll be laughing all the way to President Obama's re-election in 2012.
This one really strikes a MoveOn - Obama nerve - you can tell by these comments.
Lib-bots - we are talking about a public junior high school. And you know it happens everywhere because you train and certify the teachers. This is not some isolated vo-ed instructor. And this is what Swedish TV is learning about the United States of Social Justice - it was just part of a documentary. Good grief.
Coyote, keep it up. You are on the right track. Make them defend the indefensible. That 'get up in their face' Alinskyite response is proof you scored.
Wow the moonbats sure jumped at this one. LOL...
Drive that bus! Drive that bus! Drive that bus right off of the cliff!
We notice that the moonbats say NOTHING against this teacher. Instead they immediately jump to "yah but THEY do it too!" Meanwhile conservatives will denounce this behavior no matter what side it is on. Now...you moonbat trolls... You get no other comments until you actually deal with what this teacher has done and said.

wingnut 7:02,
Well lookie you are wrong again. You post is still up there. And I did not have to waste my time looking through google to find it.
So did you get a cut in pay,to troll blogs, after the election?
yip yip
(PS: you can just see the moonbat faces turning red with hate and spittle falling all over the keyboard.)
Moonbats, how can you compare the remarks of a teacher's aide (probably paid $9/hr) to one child to the video involving the teacher posted here?
The video shows a teacher making comments to her entire class (in her role as their teacher) and doing so while she knew that she was being filmed!?!
That is light-years from the other story (where the teacher's aide likely knew that she was doing something wrong but didn't think she would get caught).
This is like the difference between a sheriff organizing a cross-burning in the town square vs. a deputy using racial epithets with a motorist he's pulled over.
It's not the intent to abuse the public trust as much as it is the audacity to do it in the light of day as if there was nothing wrong with it.
What's more, the teacher's aide was suspended and will likely be let go. The teacher, on the other hand, will only get "a stern lecture" from the superintendent (who will make sure that no cameras end up in her class from this point forward).
Pancho is right. This teacher is probably tenured so will keep her job. The aide in question was suspended and will probably be fired.
This teach will keep doing this but just will not allow any cameras into her room next time.
And the left thinks it's ok.
"Drive that bus! Drive that bus! Drive that bus right off of the cliff!"
We'll need lessons from the Bush administration and the McCain campaign first.
again...another moonbat quite alright with the political indoctrination of our youth.
next time try addressing the subject matter before you make an empty quip.
Word verification letters? "mandied"...hmmm
