Meanwhile the Bush administration was warning Congress about the financial problems

There is literally no way any Democrat can watch this and continue to place the financial mess on the presidency of George W. Bush and not also place the blame on Barney Frank and the Democrats in Congress.

Barney Frank was clearly wrong in 2003, but remind me again what party controlled both houses of the US Congress in 2003 and 2005 when this legislation was blocked?

Yet another misleading story by Fox News.

Fannie and Freddie bought off all the D's and about half of the R's.

Easy to point fingers, because both parties are deserving. But these facts need to be circulated so that the D's assume (at least) a portion of their (significant) share of the blame.

Barney Frank should not be able to put on a white hat and pretend he is the sheriff of change.

I'm not generally a fan of campaign finance reform, but when it comes to GSE's I think they should be prohibited from making any political donations and their lobbying budgets should be reduced to simply providing information in response to legislative questions.

Gov't Sponsored Entities should not have a legislative agenda, much less spread their (legislatively enabled) profits across Congress.

The supposition that responsibility for this financial crisis rests with the Obama administration (entered office Jan 20) and not the administration of the last 8 years is completely hysterical. It is the administration's job to corral Congress *and* control the economy.

Sometimes I just don't see how you R's can look yourselves in the face after assertions like this....

That's because you are a blind leftist, David.

Did you forget that Reid, Pelosi, Barney Frank etc. are now in their 3rd year of leadership of Congress; that they've been doing Obama-lite now for more than 2 full years? And that Bush gave Congress whatever they wanted during his last 2 years as long as he could retire with his GWOT intact?

Economically, things weren't so bad during Bush's first 6 years but you GWOT haters just couldn't take the prosperity.

The question is, are you better off than you were after the 2006 election?

Do you realize that a dead goose is of no use to you New Progs?

We are dealing with systemic economic failure catalyzed by gov't intervention in the housing market, expanded by the availability of easy credit and detonated by widespread corporate fiscal policies that were incredibly shortsighted.

It has been a long time in coming and is exposing the unsustainability of our trajectory of gov't deficit spending.

Both parties are responsible. The R's are coming closer to owning up to it, but I'm not confident that this would be the case if they weren't in the minority.

It is the administration's job to corral Congress *and* control the economy

Here is the problem with people like David Appell. A fundemental lack of understanding of such things as basic Constitutional Theory AND Economics.

1) The Adminstration's job is NOT to corral Congress. The Adminstration (the Executive Branch) and the Congress (The Legislative Branch) are seperate entities along with the Courts (the Judicial Branch) that exist as checks and balances against each other. The is no intent or job of one to corral the other.

2) You can't "control" the economy. You can attempt to push it one way or the other, but the economy can't be controlled.

When we (as Republicans) point out that every time taxes have been cut the economy has soared, we have point to the Clinton Tax hike. The economy soared in the 90's after the (at the time) largest tax hike in history.

We can say "tax cuts tend to stimulate the economy" and point to specific times in history where that happened. But at the same time, we can point to a specific time in history where after a tax hike the economy soared. The economy is going to do what the economy is going to do. It CAN NOT be controled.

Not by Republicans. Not by Democrats. Not by Libertarians. Not by Commie-pinkos. Not by Dirty Facists. Not by a combination of any of the above. Controling the economy is like controling the weather. It sounds like a lovely novel idea when they do it on Star Trek, but it's a fantasy concept.

DavidAppell,
How do you look yourself in the mirror after lying so often and so big?

You accused me:"The supposition that responsibility for this financial crisis rests with the Obama administration."

Just where did I blame the Obama administration?

In fact I have said for a long time that the largest amount of blame lies at the feet of Congressman Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd.

And yet NO ONE on the left has even attempted to call them out.

People are losing their homes, jobs, livelihoods. How do you live with yourself.
