Gregoire, Democratics and Union Thugs
In Washington State a big collective "uh oh" has just been heard throughout the political and business circles as Boeing purchased a new plant in South Carolina.
Gov. Gregoire is trying to paint a smiley face on the whole thing, but the potential for Boeing to move out of state is very very real.
Apparently Boeing officials have had some very candid talks with leading Democrats concerning the thuggish tactics of the Machinist Union. The Union Thugs just don't seem to understand that as the company is attempting to navigate contracts in the hundreds of millions of dollars they cannot, any longer, keep looking over their shoulders wondering if the employees are going to strike.
Dicks also said that at a March meeting with Boeing CEO Jim McNerney, arranged by Gregoire and held in the Washington, D.C., office of Sen. Patty Murray, “McNerney was very candid.”However in the Seattle Times' story what is most stunning is the absolute ignorance of the Democrat politicians and the Union Thug representatives as to how business in the real world works. They seem perfectly willing (willful ignorance?) to lead a pack of lemmings off of the cliff and kill them all.
“The message was that we need to get a resolution of this (strike) problem. We can’t live with this.”
Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Bainbridge Island, said McNerney made clear that “the relationship with the labor community,” particularly the question of strikes, “was a major component of the decision.”
The International Association of Machinists (IAM) has struck the company four times in seven sets of contract talks over the past 20 years, most recently for two months last fall. Its contract expires in 2012.
“This is such a huge ask of the Machinists,” Gregoire said. “The idea of labor giving up the right to strike is a huge issue for them. There has to be something on the other side equally compelling. The magnitude of this is really challenging.”
Huh? There "has to be" something on the "other side" (management) that is equally compelling? Really? Well how bout "OK then we will move. Is that compelling enough fer ya?" Or perhaps a better way to put is "pound sand."
Dicks (Democrat Congressman) said any overarching no-strike agreement would have to involve some kind of binding independent arbitration of disputes between management and union.Well how bout the company simply shut down your plant and you get to have all the remaining "power" you want? See how that whole General Motors thing is working out for you and your "workers."
But IAM district President Tom Wroblewski balked at the idea of setting aside the union’s strike weapon.
“Take away our only power?” Wroblewski asked rhetorically. “I can’t see ever taking our power away.”
“If we were to have these discussions, the company would have to come through with something, … guaranteed employment of some sort,” he said. “The trade-offs would be huge.”Again more complete ignorance coming from Democrat Congressman Norm Dicks. What dah heck does Boeing "got" to do? Are you going to MAKE them stay in Washington? Are you going to MAKE Boeing employ a certain number of people with mandated pay and benefits? Even if the company looses money? Really Congressman Dicks? Really Union Thugs?
Dicks agreed.
“This is a two-way street,” said Dicks. “I’ve urged the Boeing leadership that there’s got to be give on their side.”
You people, living in your make believe world, may see this as a "two-way" street, but Boeing the company, sees the real world aerospace market and what they must do to compete.
Perhaps Boeing has been watching the idiots at General Motors who caved to the Union Thugs only to see their company dive to bankruptcy and eventually be taken over by the Federal Government.
Perhaps Democrat Norm Dicks would better serve the workers of Washington State, and the entire nation, by asking the Obama administration and Congress to revisit the National Labor Relations Act?
Hmmm... Now there is a novel idea. Instead of threatening to drive Washington companies out of Washington (see Oregon as a prime example) and American companies out of America, why not actually listen to the folks who are running these businesses and employing Americans and find out how to make America/Washington more.... wait for it... wait... COMPETITIVE!
I am not going to hold my breath however. The fact that high ranking Democrat politicians are this woefully ignorant as to how the real world works is instructional as to how completely dysfunctional these people are.
In the meant time the Union Thugs, and their puppets in the Democrat party, can kick and scream and hold their breath until all their jobs are gone. Then they can pat themselves on their collective backs at just how "successful" they were.

Obamanistas want to repeal section 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act that allows states to opt-out of the system of forced-tribute unionism imposed under federal law. That way the federal gov't would negate any advantages enjoyed by states that have enacted Right to Work laws, like South Carolina. If they have the votes for the Job-Killer Card-Check Act - the first endorsement made by the newest Sen. Stuart Smalley (D-ACORN) - then they ought to have the votes to end worker-choice once and for all. Their attitude is "We don't need no stinking federalism."
Give them enough time, and Boeing might just become a Bermuda company. Or Irish.
It's amazing and demonstrative to see this sort of thing unfold without any lefties finding anything to criticise their democrat politicians about.
Will Boeing leave the state without any of them uttering a word?
Oh how loyal.
It would seem logical to me that if the Machinist union wants their members to still have jobs 2-3 years from now, they will agree to the whole no-strike thing.
While at heart, I am still fairly pro-union, I think that going on strike is the wrong way to go about doing things. It only serves to stop production, weaken the economy and eventually just piss off the company you are working for to a point where you won't have a job at all anymore.
Honestly, the IAM needs to step back for a moment and realize that in reality, the machinist work for Boeing, not IAM. When Boeing decides to pack up and move to South Carolina, are the workers still going to have a job? Is the IAM going to do everything they can to go out and find their people new jobs? I seriously doubt it.
Wake up IAM. Your time is coming near.
Boeing is just a big, evil corporation. What does Washington need it for? I'd like to see every business move out of Washington because then life would be wonderful. No more pollution. No more worker exploitation. It will be paradise.
Coyote-please tell the whole story. The plant Boeing purchased in Georgia makes part of the fuselage for Boeing's new dreamliner. That supplier was in severe financial difficulty and Boeing stepped in to rescue it, and thus the dreamliner.
Another angle on the story is that Boeing's idea to outsource the manufacture of various parts of the plane turned out not to be a viable economic model.
Yes, Boeing has acquired manufacturing capability in Georgia. Yes, it has worked for years with its workers on labor issues. But, to present the story as you did-that being Boeing considering leaving Washington because of the Unions-is hackery. You are telling only that fraction of the story that suits your interests and prejudices, ignoring the entire contexts, and therefore misleading your readers. We expect that from you, but also feel the need to correct you.
Anon 848: you may want to re-think your comment, as mainstream media have begun to report on the concerns over Boeing leaving the state.
anonybat 8:48,
First of all you might want to ratchet down your personal attacks if you are going to remain anonoymous.
Second don't accuse me of not telling the "whole" story or of "hackery" for suggesting that Boeing might move out of the State.
Did you read the embedded links? Do you not have any comments on the actual story from the MAINSTREAM MEDIA? Hmmm?
For you to present your dishonest spin on my blog post is dishonest hackery.
You said:"But, to present the story as you did-that being Boeing considering leaving Washington because of the Unions-is hackery."
OK... "as you (I) did?" Read the first paragraph of the Seattle Times story.
"Members of the state’s congressional delegation said Tuesday that Boeing is laying down an ultimatum to its biggest union: Unless a long-term agreement barring strikes by the Machinists is reached by this fall, Boeing will build a second production line for the 787 someplace outside Washington."
Notice that? It was not "ME" who made that claim or "presentation." No it was members of the state's congressional delegation who presented that story. I know that it does not fit your misguided stereotype that a Democrat would say that and that a Republican (me) wouldn't start that... But unfortunately for you that is the truth.
Need more proof of your error and false accusation? "Dicks, the third-ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, is an aggressive lobbyist for Boeing on issues such as its bid for the Air Force refueling-tanker contract and is close to the company’s leadership.
He said the ultimatum was laid out for him and other members of the congressional delegation by “high-ranking people in the Boeing Company” whom he declined to name."
OK? That would be Norm Dick, Democrat Congressman. Not Coyote Republican blogger.
Let me give you some advice. Slow down. Take a breath. READ the post and the embedded links with some dispassionate objectivity.
It might prevent you from making a completely silly statement like that and prevent you the embarrassment of making a false accusation.
Also turn down your stereotype. It is obviously turned up too loud as you seemed determined to jump at your first knee-jerk reaction and thus mislead people into thinking that you actually know what you are talking about.... That is a dangerous shame.
And finally... We see why I really don't like leaving anonymous moonbat comments up on this blog.
This guy was wrong on so many levels and he was comfortable enough to call me names and make false accusations. Yet by hiding behind his skirt of anonymity he probably feels like he can do that all the time.
Well moonbats try it all the time and that is why I usually simply remove them and don't bother. Otherwise I have to go through the time and effort of giving them a public spanking like this over and over and over.
Periodically I leave comments like this one up as an example.
However anonybat 8:48, I'll not allow further anonymous false accusations to sit here on this blog. You can run over to your blog if you want and do that.
Yip Yip
Ted-
Just do what the far left does. Any time someone attacks you, just claim that it's because they are racist and hate Native Americans.
Don't like the policies of President Obama? You're a racist and you hate black people!
See how easy it is?
Me thinks anonymous would have been more careful if he would have been required to give his name.
Me also thinks that the lady protest too much.
Personally, I think fewer people should post comments as Anonymous. If you don't want someone to know who you are then your opinion probably does not count too much. At least in my opinion.
And oh yeah, no businesses in WAshington is a great idea! No job? No economy. Good idea there. @@
